The 2022 Royal London One-Day Cup continued on August 21 with two Group B matches. Here is a look at the highlights from both those fixtures.

Derbyshire vs Yorkshire

After winning the toss and electing to field first, Yorkshire captain Jonathan Tattersall applied as many as six bowlers in the Derbyshire innings. Five of them picked two wickets each as the Yorkshire quintet shot out the hosts for just 109 inside 43 overs.

New ball pacer Ben Coad conceded only 15 runs and delivered four maidens in his 10-over spell. For Derbyshire, none of the batters scored above 20 while only five of them barely made it to double-digits.

Notably, hosts responded well while defending a paltry total. Sam Conners picked five wickets for just 28 and removed both openers. Ben Aitchison also claimed three but their combined efforts were not enough to stop Yorkshire crossing over the line with a wicket in hand.

Brief scores:

Derbyshire: 109 (42.4)

Harry Came 19 (58), Mattie McKiernan 17 (33)
Jack Shutt 2-5, Ben Coad 2-15

Yorkshire: 110-9 (31.5)

Matthew Waite 23 (17), George Hill 21 (48)
Sam Conners 5-28, Ben Aitchison 3-33

Yorkshire won by 1 wicket

Hampshire vs Essex

Shane Snater’s calculated 64 and lower-order contributions from Jamal Richards and Ben Allison elevated the Essex total to 257-8 at Southampton.

Later in the evening, Snater backed his functional knock with a three-fer that pushed Hampshire up against the wall. However, Tom Prest’s 76 and Ian Holland’s rapid 10-ball 21* ensured hosts crossed the finishing line in the penultimate over.

The win also confirmed Hampshire’s place in the knockouts. The final round of Group B matches on Tuesday will determine whether they will enter the semi-finals or the quarter-finals.

Brief scores:

Essex: 257-8 (50)

Shane Snater 64 (63), Jamal Richards 31 (55)
Scott Currie 2-46, John Turner 2-55

Hampshire: 260-7 (48.2)

Tom Prest 76 (104), Toby Albert 34 (26)
Shane Snater 3-46, Luc Benkenstein 2-47
