Trent Boult set to be released from central contract

In a massive development, New Zealand Cricket has decided to release Trent Boult from his central contract, enabling him to spend more time with his family and make himself available for domestic leagues.

The governing body made this call following the fast bowler's request for the same. However, the board has clarified that Boult will complete the West Indies tour.

This means the 33-year-old will have a significantly reduced role with the national team from now onwards. However, he will be eligible for selection if and when available.

Addressing Boult as one of the finest multi-format players in the world, NZC chief executive David White said, "We respect Trent's position. He's been completely honest and up-front with us about his reasoning and, while we're sad to be losing him as a fully-contracted player, he leaves with our best wishes and sincere thanks."

On the other hand, Boult said, "As a fast bowler I know I have a limited career span, and I feel the time is right to move into this next phase."
