ZIM vs AFG | 2nd ODI | Preview, Prediction, Probable XI, CREX XI

Zimbabwe will lock horns with Afghanistan in the 2nd fixture of the 3-match ODI series on Monday (June 6) at Harare Sports Club.

In the 1st ODI, Zimbabwe invited the visitors to bat first. Unfortunately, the openers Ibrahim Zadran (5) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (17) were dismissed early. However, Rahmat Shah's (94) fighting knocks and captain Hashmatullah Shahidi (88) laid a robust platform, while Rashid Khan provided an excellent finish with 39* off 17 to help the team post 276. Blessing Muzarabani was the pick of the bowlers, who finished with figures of 4/52.

In the second half, Innocent Kaia (39) and Sikandar Raza (67) were the notable contributors to the home team, as they lost by 60 runs. Mohammad Nabi picked four wickets to help Afghanistan go 1-0 up in the series and cement their place in the 3rd spot on Cricket World Cup Super League (CWCSL) table.

Zimbabwe would have to work hard in this fixture to save this series and remain in the hunt for finishing in the top eight places of CWCSL. Dion Myers is expected to feature in the Playing XI for this game.

On the other hand, Afghanistan will not look to tinker with the winning combination and rather focus on continuing their fine performances in both departments.

Josh Hazlewood recalls the time he wasn’t considered a bowler for T20 format

Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood talked about his white-ball cricket experience and how things had gone from strength to strength for him ahead of the T20I series against Sri Lanka. Hazlewood was Australia's lead pacer in T20Is during the 2021-22 season as he has taken the most wickets amongst fast bowlers, with 31 wickets at an average of 14.22 in 18 matches, and an economy of 6.61. But once there was a time when he was not considered a bowler for the shortest form of the game. Recalling those days, Hazlewood said he made a conscious effort to get back into T20 cricket, realizing that there were a couple of world events lined up. "I could see a couple of World Cups coming up in T20 cricket and wanted to poke my nose back in at the IPL, so I jumped in for the Sixers," Hazlewood told cricket.com.au. "It was probably that period when I made a conscious effort to get back into T20. It was so hard before that with logistical issues, tours were overlapping, and you had to pick and choose what you wanted to play for Australia. Took that opportunity to play the Big Bash, and that led to playing for Chennai (Chennai Super Kings) and I ended up playing more and more games as time went on, then here we are," he added. "It's a strange one, I guess. I've obviously missed a fair bit of red-ball cricket through injury and selection so, a little bit disappointing in that regard. Then the white-ball, T20 in particular, has gone strength to strength. That's the benefit of having three formats in this sport. If you are struggling in one, or not going particularly well, then you can rely on another one to come through," Hazelwood further stated. With a big tour of Sri Lanka starting this month, the New South Wales cricketer spoke about the possibility of Australia going with one less pace bowling option against Sri Lanka in the upcoming T20I, ODI, and Test series as conditions are different in the Asian subcontinent. "We're lucky to have Cam Green (Cameron Green) there to cover a lot of bases and obviously you need airspeed on those wickets to have an impact." The right-arm Aussie quick also explained how the difference between the trio of him, Pat Cummins, and Mitchell Starc helps in the outcome of a Test match and the whole series. "But I think just that blend of all three of us (being) a little bit different really helps throughout a Test match and throughout a Test series," Hazlewood concluded. Hazlewood will be seen in action in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka starting on June 7 in Colombo.

'When you need them to score runs, they all get out': Kapil Dev comes down hard at Rohit, Virat & Rahul

One of the finest all-rounders of his generation, Kapil Dev, came hard on Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul ahead of India's upcoming five-T20I series against South Africa, starting from June 9 in Delhi. \ Rahul will be leading the Indian team without their regular skipper Rohit, who had been rested following a two-month-long 2022 season of Indian Premier League (IPL). Both India captain Virat and Rohit struggled for runs in the recently concluded season of IPL. While Rohit failed to score even one half-century in the tournament, finishing the season with just 268 runs in 14 games at an average of 19.14, Kohli, too, endured a disappointing season as he could manage only 341 runs in 16 matches at an average of 22.73. KL Rahul, on the other hand, was terrific with the bat for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), having amassed 616 runs with two centuries from 15 matches. However, his strike rate in some games, including the eliminator against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), drew a lot of criticism from the cricket fraternity. The 1983 World Cup-winning captain reckoned that the trio of Rohit, Virat and Rahul shouldn't feel the pressure and play fearlessly as all of them can strike 150-160 regularly. "They have a big reputation and there's huge pressure on them, which shouldn't be the case. You have to play fearless cricket. All of these are players who can hit at a strike rate of 150-160. When you need them to score runs, they all get out. When it is time to take off (in the innings), they are out. And that adds to pressure. Either you play an anchor or you play striker," Kapil Dev said on YouTube channel ‘Uncut’. Further speaking on the T20 approach of Rahul, the former India captain said that there needs to be a role clarification, adding that a big reputation of a player is of no use if he fails to deliver good performance for the team. "When you talk about KL Rahul, if the team tells him to play the entire 20 overs and you come back with a score of, say 60 not out, you're not doing justice to your team," Kapil added. "I think the approach needs to change. And if it doesn't, you have to change the players. A big player is expected to make a big impact. Having a big reputation is not enough, you also have to deliver great performances," he concluded.
