Following the dismissal of Shafali Verma, Sri Lankan spinners Chamari Athapaththu and Sachini Nisansala also got rid of Uma Chetry and Harmanpreet Kaur respectively as India slipped to 87-3 in 12 overs.

Despite losing partners from the other end, opener Smriti Mandhana remained defiant in her approach and belted a well-compiled 47-ball 60 in the middle overs.

IND vs SL Highlights: Rodrigues, Ghosh Smear Rapid Cameos In Finishing Indian Fury

India’s middle-order batters Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh smeared rapid cameos in the slog overs to take their team to a competitive 165-6 by the completion of the innings. While Rodrigues clubbed 29 runs off just 16 balls with three boundaries and a six, Ghosh countered Sri Lankan spinners with a 14-ball 30 at the death.

IND vs SL Highlights: Chamari Athapaththu Steadies SL Response After Early Loss

After a colossal mix-up that led to a disastrous runout of Vishmi Gunaratne, Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu counterattacked with an imperial half-century to take her team near the 100-run mark in just 12 overs. Athapaththu smacked nine boundaries and two sixes in her 43-ball 61 before she was cleaned up by Deepti Sharma at 94-2.

IND vs SL Highlights: Harshitha Samarawickrama Sees SL Through For Historic Win

Harshitha Samarawickrama at number three made 69 unbeaten runs from 51 balls and shared an 87-run partnership with skipper Chamari Athapaththu. Following the dismissal of Athapaththu, Samarawickrama added 73 more runs with unbeaten number four Kavisha Dilhari (30* off 16 balls) to steer Sri Lanka home with eight wickets and eight balls to spare.

The outcome helped Sri Lanka seal their first-ever Women’s Asia Cup title since the inception of the tournament.
