In the ongoing first Test match between India and Bangladesh at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Bangladesh are in deep trouble as their skipper Najmul Shanto threw his wicket away right after lunch on day 2.
Bangladesh lost three early wickets in the first session of day two and went for lunch hoping for a turnaround. However, Najmul Shanto disappointed the Bangladeshi fans as he returned to the pavilion with a score of 20 (30), which featured three fours.
On the first ball of the 12th over, Mohammed Siraj took his first wicket of the match after a thick edge ended Shanto's knock. It was a good length delivery from Siraj as Shanto looked to defend it, but Virat Kohli made no mistake standing at the second slip. It was a regular catch for Virat, but the internet was sent into a frenzy after Virat hugged Siraj following the wicket.
India vs Bangladesh Match Summary So Far
Bangladesh won the toss and asked India to bat first. Their decision proved to be a masterstroke as Hasan Mahmud took three early wickets to leave India crippled. Nonetheless, R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja stitched a 199-run stand for the seventh wicket to bring India back into the match.
Ashwin also scored his sixth Test century, but Mahmud took two more wickets to complete his five-wicket haul that restricted India to 376 runs. In reply, Bangladesh lost three early wickets as Akash Deep took two wickets while Bumrah took two as well. At the time of writing this article, Bangladesh are 49/5.
Siraj Denied the First Wicket By Rohit, Pant
On the fifth ball of the fourth over, Siraj bowled a beautiful delivery to Zakir, who was trapped in front of the wickets. However, despite a loud appeal from Siraj, the umpire was unmoved and did not raise his finger.
Discussion began between Siraj, Rishabh Pant, and Rohit Sharma. Rohit said that height is not the factor; however, Pant felt it missed the leg stump. Eventually, India did not opt for the DRS, but the replay showed the ball hitting the wicket.
