The Day 2 of the ongoing India versus Bangladesh Test started on a high note for the Indian side as Jasprit Bumrah cleaned up Shadman Islam with ease at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. India's pace sensation Bumrah did not hold back from showcasing his masterclass in the very first over of Bangladesh's first innings.
Bumrah cunningly bowled an over-the-wicket for the first five balls and then surprised Shadman by shifting around the wicket. The brilliant move to change the angles did wonders. He unleashed an excellent length delivery, pitching outside the off and nipping back into the off-stump.
Shadman, on the back foot, was left in a dilemma by Bumrah's delivery. He was unsure whether the ball would come in or go away, which led him to leave it without covering his off stump. The ball then hit the top of the off stump, marking India's first breakthrough and Bangladesh's first setback.
Hasan Mahmud Script History After Ashwin's Heroics
Hasan Mahmud led Bangladesh's charge with a five-wicket haul as India was bowled out for 376 in 91.2 overs. After a shaky start at 144/6, India’s Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin forged a remarkable partnership, rescuing the innings with a 199-run stand.
Ashwin scored 113 before his dismissal, marking his sixth Test century, while Jadeja fell just short of a ton with 86. Bangladesh made a strong start after choosing to bowl first, claiming three quick wickets. Despite the early collapse, Yashasvi Jaiswal (56) and Rishabh Pant (39) contributed to a brief recovery.
Mahmud’s historic fifer makes him the first Bangladeshi bowler to achieve this feat in India in Test cricket. Taskin Ahmed added three wickets, while Nahid Rana and Mehidy Hasan Miraz each took one, showcasing a solid team effort despite the late recovery by the Indian batters.
At the time of writing, Bangladesh are at 18/1 with Najmul Hossain Shanto and Zakir Hasan out in the middle.
