Ravichandran Ashwin displayed exceptional skill and resilience as he achieved a remarkable century against Bangladesh on the first day of the opening Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. 

This outstanding performance marked the seasoned Indian all-rounder's sixth Test century. Ashwin's innings was particularly commendable as it came at a crucial juncture when India faced a crisis following the early loss of their top order.

The knock from Ashwin came at a crucial moment, as India faced a crisis after losing their top order. Hasan Mahmud had dismissed the top three batters early after Bangladesh won the toss and chose to field first. The Indian batting lineup continued to struggle into the second session of the day, and at one point, they were in a difficult position at 144/6. 

However, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja turned the game around with an incredible unbeaten 195-run partnership. Their partnership brought the Indian team back into contention. By the end of Day 1, Ashwin had scored an unbeaten 102 runs, while Jadeja was at 86. At the start of Day 2, Ashwin scored 113 runs off 133 balls, and Jadeja made 86 runs off 124 balls after both players lost their wickets. 

Taskin Ahmed Traps Ravichandran Ashwin

Taskin Ahmed delivered a length ball outside the off stump, prompting Ashwin to step forward and attempt a lofted-off drive. However, he failed to make solid contact, which resulted in the ball flying off the toe end of his bat towards the widish mid-off. 

Shanto, positioned at mid-off, tracked the ball and secured a crucial catch. After his dismissal, the stadium erupted into cheers as Ravichandran Ashwin concluded his brilliant innings, receiving a well-deserved standing ovation. 

An outstanding partnership between Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin has helped them get to 376 after they were reeling at 144/6 at one stage. Chasing the target, Jasprit Bumrah showcased his class and scalped the wicket of  Shadman Islam in the very first over of Bangladesh's first innings. At the time of writing, Bangladesh are at 15/1.
