Bangladesh's promising speedster Hasan Mahmud scripted history as he recorded a sensational five-wicket haul in the first Test against India at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The right-arm pacer became the first-ever bowler from his country to bag a fifer on Indian soil. Thus, he also recorded the best-ever bowling figure by a Bangladesh bowler in a Test match in India.

Hasan Mahmud, who operates at a gentle pace, can trouble the batters with his accuracy and movement. The medium pacer preserved his best performance for the Chennai Test, running through India's top order in the first session of the game.

After bamboozling Rohit Sharma with a ripper, Mahmud got the prized scalps of Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli, leaving India in tatters. His sensational new ball spell triggered India's batting collapse, with the hosts losing their top six for 144 runs.

He eventually got rid of Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah to complete his fifer. Bumrah was his final victim, with Bangladesh bowling India out for 376 runs in their first innings.

Bangladesh lose Shadman Early After India Finish On 376

Riding on Hasan Mahmud's fifer and a three-wicket haul from Taskin Ahmed, Bangladesh finally bundled India out for 376 runs. Despite losing six wickets for 144 runs, the hosts made a remarkable comeback, courtesy of a mammoth seventh-wicket partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

In response, the visitors had the worst possible start to their innings, as Jasprit Bumrah castled Shadman Islam for two runs. As of writing, Bangladesh were 15 for one in 5.4 overs, with Zakir Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto batting on 3* and 9*, respectively.
