In the recently concluded Champions One-Day Cup match between Panthers and Lions at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad, the Shaheen Afridi-led side registered their second straight defeat as they suffered an 84-run defeat against the Panthers.

The Shadab Khan-led side, batting first, put 283 runs on the board. In reply, the Lions tumbled for just 199 runs on the board. It was a disappointing display from the Lions' batters as no batter other than Imam-ul-Haq rose to the occasion and sealed the win. 

Usama Mir Gets Afridi

Meanwhile, Shaheen Afridi, who is known to hit big shots, too failed with the bat as he registered an eight-ball duck. On the last ball of the 30th over, Usama Mir bowled a peach of a delivery that bamboozled Afridi and rattled his stumps. 

Afridi was stunned by the delivery while celebrations were in full-swing by Mir and his teammates. He had the opportunity to build a partnership with Khushdil, but the wicket crushed Lions' hopes. 

Afridi's Performance With The Ball

Despite a failure with the bat, Afridi shone with the ball as he claimed a three-wicket haul in his 10 over spell. Afridi registered the figures of 3/57 in 9.5 overs. Afridi was also impressive with the ball in the first match against The Stallions where he took two wickets. 

However, with two defeats in two matches, Lions are placed last on the table with no points. Further, they also have a negative net run-rate of 2.170. It is a crucial tournament for Afridi as he looked a pale shadow of his earlier version before this tournament. Thus, gaining confidence ahead of Champions Trophy 2025 is crucial for Afridi.
