Pakistan's premier fast bowler Shaheen Afridi was prevented from scalping his first wicket, as a hilarious fielding effort at slips gave Saim Ayub a lifeline in the ongoing Champions Cup match between the Lions and the Panthers. Opening the bowling for the Lions, Shaheen bowled a magnificent delivery to create a golden opportunity for the first blood. However, he was disappointed as the slip fielders let the ball pass without attempting for a catch.

The incident occurred in the very first over of the Panthers' innings after they opted to bat under tricky conditions. Shaheen Afridi opened the bowling for the Lions, building pressure on the Panthers' out-of-form batter Saim Ayub with his pace and movement.

After starting his over with a wide, the left-arm pacer made a remarkable comeback, drawing Saim Ayub onto a false shot. From over the wicket, the speedster bowled a full-length delivery that shaped slightly away from Ayub after pitching around the fifth stump.

As the stylish southpaw played a risky shot away from his body, he only ended up getting a thick outside edge, with the ball flying towards the slips. However, the slip fielders lacked communication and waited for each other's attempt in stead of catching the ball. As a result, the ball travelled through the slip cordon and raced to the fence for four runs.

The sloppy fielding effort made Shaheen Afridi angry, as he was hopeful of redeeming himself with an early wicket after an ordinary outing in the last game

Panthers Get A Disastrous Start As Lions Run Riot

Soon after Saim was dropped off Shaheen's bowling, the Lions got their first breakthrough in the form of Azan Awais, who was dismissed by Siraj Uddin. While Umar Siddiq became Shaheen's first victim, the in-form Usman Khan registered a duck, courtesy of Omair Yousuf's magnificent fielding effort. As of writing, the Panthers were reeling at 33 for three, with Saim Ayub and Mubasir Khan batting on 6* and 0*, respectively.
