India will take on Bangladesh for the first of two-match Test series starting on September 19 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Ahead of the first Test, India are sweating it hard in the nets while the visitors have landed in Chennai.

India are a balanced side with senior members as well as budding stars headlining the playing XI. Eyes would be on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, while stars like Yashasvi Jaiswal stand a chance to outshine them. Speaking on the same, this article will analyse three reasons why Jaiswal can outperform Virat in the upcoming Tests.

1. Great Player Of Spin

One of the USP of Jaiswal is that he is a great player of spin. Usually, opening-order batters are great players of the seam, but Jaiswal tackles spinners easily as well.

It is worth noting that when Jaiswal scored a double hundred against England in the 2024 home Test series, 192 runs off his 209-run knock came against spinners, which speaks volumes about his ability to tackle spin.

Bangladesh are known for great spin bowlers as Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraj would look to replicate their performance versus Pakistan against India. While India would look towards Jaiswal to counter those threats with positive intent.

2. Aggressive Intent

Out of all the Indian openers, Jaiswal is the most aggressive batter. He is the closest to someone of Virender Sehwag's intent at the top of the innings. Jaiswal has played 9 Test matches for India and amassed 1028 runs, which includes two double-hundreds. He has a strike rate of 70.07.

Similar to Sehwag, India need a batter who takes away the shine from the ball by beating it to the boundaries. He is a power-hitter, who plays technically sound shots, which is a rare quality for a batter.

3. Strong Recent Form

Looking at Jaiswal's recent Test form, he is a force to be reckoned with. During England's tour of India in 2024, Jaiswal was the top scorer with 712 runs. He nearly broke Sunil Gavaskar's record for most runs in a Test series for India (774).

He scored two double-hundreds in that series in the 2nd and 3rd Tests. One of the great abilities of Jaiswal is that he goes all guns blazing right from the first ball and does not hold back from unleashing his carnage mode.
