With each passing day, the cricketing fraternity is inching closer to the much-awaited IPL mega auction. The event is significant for the ten participating teams, as it provides them with a golden opportunity to fine-tune their respective squads ahead of the lucrative tournament.

Given that the teams release a whole lot of players ahead of each mega auction, the fans keep their eyes on the marquee cricketers, who shift their allegiances. So, this year's mega auction will be no different, with several big names going under the hammer in pursuit of a new home.

India's stylish keeper-batter KL Rahul could be one of the established players in the auction pool this year. According to several media reports, the Karnataka batter might be released by the Lucknow Super Giants, with the franchise aiming to amend its core before the IPL 2025.

So, as the mega auction draws near, let's see which teams might be interested in buying KL Rahul if he breaks ties with the SuperGiants.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru

For the unversed, KL Rahul had a successful brief stint with his home franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru before joining Punjab Kings. Known as the perennial underachievers, RCB will likely release Faf du Plessis and enter the mega auction to find an opening batter and skipper for their team.

Rahul can be a perfect fit in RCB, as he can open the innings and lead the side. Also, considering Dinesh Karthik has retired from the IPL, Rahul could also provide RCB with a wicket-keeping option.

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals had a torrid run in the IPL 2024, finishing at number six in the points table with seven defeats in fourteen matches. The poor form of David Warner and Prithvi Shaw proved costly for the Capitals, leading to their underwhelming performance in the tournament.

Therefore, the Capitals might release the non-performing duo and consider buying a more reliable opening batter in the mega auction. Also, if reports are to be believed, they might trade Rishabh Pant with Chennai Super Kings. If such a deal happens, the Capitals will also need to buy someone as their skipper. In such a scenario, KL Rahul could be a choice worth considering, given his ability to shoulder batting as well as leadership responsibilities.

Punjab Kings

Another team that might be interested in KL Rahul is Punjab Kings. Their regular skipper Shikhar Dhawan has announced retirement from all forms of cricket. So, their top order definitely has a vacant spot, and they might fill it up by adding Rahul to their setup.

Rahul has represented Punjab in the past, amassing 2548 runs at a glorious average of 56.62 and a strike rate of 139.77. So, he is familiar with the Kings' home conditions and can form a solid opening pair alongside Prabhsimran Singh if the latter is retained.
