Indian keeper-batter Sanju Samson had a horrendous beginning to the South African tour, as he was cleaned up by Beuran Hendricks for 12. Coming at number five, Samson looked a bit rusty, taking some time to settle in the middle. However, his 23-ball stay was put to an end by experienced Proteas pacer Beuran Hendricks, who cleaned him up in the 32nd over.

After being put into bat first, India had a disastrous start to their innings, with Nandre Burger trapping Ruturaj Gaikwad plumb in front of the stumps. After famed Mumbai Indians batter Tilak Varma departed for a sloth-paced 30-ball 10, Sai Sudharsan and KL Rahul stitched a vital 68-run stand for the third wicket. Samson joined the middle as soon as Sudharsan got out by edging a short ball to the South African keeper Heinrich Klaasen.

India's passionate fans had high expectations from Samson, who was making his ODI comeback with this game. However, the batter had a disappointing outing, managing only 12 runs under his belt.

It was an outgoing delivery from Hendricks, as Samson went for a half-hearted drive through the off side. He was slightly late and inside-edged the ball, which in turn disturbed the timber.

After his departure, debutant Rinku Singh joined hands with KL Rahul to steady the Indian ship. As of writing, India are 163 for 4 in 35 overs, with Rahul and Rinku batting on 52* and 17*, respectively.
