In a significant development, MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings secured the services of Sameer Rizvi, an uncapped batter who recently grabbed the limelight through a string of scintillating performances.
The 20-year-old batter from Uttar Pradesh initiated a bidding war between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans. With both franchises desperately trying to get him in, Rizvi's price gradually went up, eventually breaching the 7.5 Cr mark.
The Titans backed out from the race, as Delhi Capitals replaced them to involve in the bidding war with the Super Kings. However, the Men in Yellow had the last laugh, buying Rizvi for a hefty amount of INR 8.40 Crores.
Who Is Sameer Rizvi?
Sameer Rizvi is a right-handed batter, who was born in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, in 2003. Besides his state team, Rizvi has represented India B under-19 in his brief cricketing career. Known for his batting attributes, he can also roll his arms for some overs of off-spin bowling.
Rizvi has played two First-Class games, eleven List A and T20s at domestic level, scoring 517 runs across formats. However, he has particularly been successful in T20s, amassing 295 runs at an average of 49.16 and a blistering strike rate of 134.70.
The stylish right-handed batter recently became a household name after enjoying a dream run in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, garnering 277 runs at an average of 69.25 and a strike rate of 139.89. He was the top run scorer for UP in the tournament, helping himself get a lucrative contract in the IPL auction.
