After an intense spending spree in the first half of the IPL 2024 auction, which saw the likes of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc fetching the costliest contract of IPL, it was then time for the uncapped players to test their luck in the second half.

The first pick from the uncapped category was Vidarbha middle order batter Shubham Dubey. The batter rose to fame after he emerged as the leading run-scorer of Vidarbha in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

He scored 221 runs with an average of 73.66 and 187.28 strike rate across seven games. Besides, he maintains a phenomenal strike rate of 145 in the domestic T20 circuit.

Hailing from the Yavatmal district of Maharashtra, the left-handed batter Shubham Dubey is an exceptional lower-order finishing option. His 58 runs knocked off 20 balls against Bengal in SMAT, impressing the scouts as the bidding war heated up during the ongoing auction.

DC Lost Shubham Dubey To RR In Intense Bidding Battle

Delhi Capitals mentor Sourav Ganguly had actively scouted Dubey during the domestic tournament, and thus, DC initiated the battle by placing the opening bid of 20 lakhs. While Delhi felt confident, Rajasthan Royals jumped in, thus kicking off an intense bidding war that scaled Dubey's value by tenfolds.

Neither DC nor RR were ready to lower the guard, and the bidding war surpassed five crore figures within no time. Due to a lack of funds, Capitals backed out as RR got hold of the promising young talent at a whopping price of 5.80 crores.

Indeed, it was a dream come true moment for 29-year-old Shubham Dubey as he looks forward to launching his journey in competitive cricket.

Having said that, Dubey will complement RR’s star-studded lineup. He could play the role of a finisher in case Hetmyer or Riyan Parag underperforms. The 29-year-old is a finished product and could even stand a chance to start over Parag or Hetmyer.

In conclusion, while securing Shubham Dubey cost RR a fortune, he is totally worth the risk given his exceptional talent and skill set.
