The IPL 2024 auction witnessed a whirlwind of excitement as big names like Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc set the stage ablaze in the first half. However, it was the uncapped players who stole the spotlight in the latter part of the event, with Jharkhand's young sensation, Kumar Kushagra, making headlines.

The 19-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman, known for his explosive middle-order batting and right-handed prowess, garnered attention with a staggering INR 7.2 Crore deal with the Delhi Capitals. With a remarkable strike rate of 123 and an impressive statistic of 18 balls per six in SMAT 2023, Kushagra's addition to the Delhi Capitals' roster promises an exciting season ahead.

Having made his List A debut in the 2020–21 Vijay Hazare Trophy, Kushagra's cricketing journey started early. His talent was further showcased on the global stage when he was named in India's squad for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

The Capitals faced stiff competition from the Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans before securing the services of this promising young talent.

Kushagra's recent performances have added to his growing reputation. In the Deodhar Trophy, he emerged as the sixth-highest run-scorer, amassing 227 runs at a strike rate of 109.13. His impactful 37-ball 67 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy demonstrated his ability to handle pressure and steer his team to victory.

The youngster's meteoric rise began in 2022 when, at just 17 years old, he etched his name in the record books by scoring a double hundred against Nagaland in the Ranji Trophy pre-quarterfinals. This achievement made him the sixth-youngest player to achieve such a milestone in first-class cricket.
