Mumbai Indians were caught in a whirlwind of criticism after it replaced celebrated captain Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya ahead of the impending 2024 IPL season.

Hardik Pandya re-joined forces with MI last month via trade with Gujarat Titans and was made captain days ahead of the crucial auction. Shortly after, the rumor market was filled with all kinds of wild speculations.

Rumors suggested that a couple of rival IPL teams had approached Rohit Sharma to convince him to jump ship from MI.

Not only that, Rohit’s peers Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, and Jasprit Bumrah, amongst many others, reportedly revolted against Hardik’s appointment and sought an exit as well.

With the trade window open until 30 days before the official commencement of the league, many believed that Rohit and many of his MI teammates would land elsewhere.

Rohit Sharma To Leave MI?

However, an unnamed senior member of Mumbai Indians refuted these conjectures at the auction venue. While speaking to Cricbuzz, the anonymous individual confirmed that neither Rohit nor any other MI player would be traded ahead of the 2024 season. The reports swirling around the internet are utterly baseball and fake, said the senior member.

"Rohit is not going anywhere, nor will any player. The news reports are totally fake and false. No MI player will be leaving us, nor will be traded by us," a senior Mumbai Indians official told Cricbuzz.

Having said that, the unnamed individual further clarified that Rohit Sharma was not kept in the dark regarding his captaincy future. He was informed of the management’s decision in a timely manner and was also kept in the loop throughout the decision-making process.

"Every player was taken into confidence before the decision was made. Rohit too was informed, and he is very much part of the decision-making process," the official added.

Earlier, rumors suggested that Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings approached MI to trade Rohit Sharma, but the latter declined the offer as they are not indulging in the trade race anymore, confirmed by Cricbuzz.

Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians to five titles in the span of a decade. Under his leadership, MI transformed into an esteemed force; thus, the fans were enraged when the transition of power took place.

However, MI is determined to shape its future with Rohit Sharma being on the last leg of his storied career.
