After a high-octane Test series in Australia, Pakistan will travel to New Zealand for a five-match T20 Internationals (T20I) series, which will commence on January 12. However, all-rounder Shadab Khan, who sustained an injury during Pakistan's premier domestic T20 tournament, the National T20 Cup remains doubtful for the series.

Khan, 25, has been out of action since the ankle injury, where the player would have to be carried out of the playing field on teammate's back, is yet to recover.

As reported by Cricket Pakistan, chief selector Wahab Riaz along with others on the selection panel will hold a meeting today and are expected to announce the Pakistan squad sometime this evening, where players will be picked based on performances in the National T20 Cup 2023.

While the squad remains to be selected, pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi will captain Pakistan in New Zealand, having already been named 20-overs skipper after former leader Babar Azam stepped down from all formats after ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

A training camp will be held for the T20I squad in Lahore at National Cricket Academy, which will start on December 25.

The first T20I will be played in Auckland, followed by Hamilton and Dunedin, which will host the second and third encounters, respectively. The final two T20Is will be played at Christchurch.

The last time New Zealand and Pakistan met in T20Is in the land of Kiwis, the hosts prevailed 2-1 in 2020-21.
