Indian captain Rohit Sharma had a forgettable outing with the bat, as Bangladesh's premier pacer Hasan Mahmud dismissed him cheaply in the ongoing first Test between the two teams at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Opening the batting for India, the talismanic Mumbaikar managed only six runs before Najmul Hossain Shanto's sharp catch left him stunned.

The incident occurred in the sixth over of India's first innings after Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first. The visiting pacers capitalised on the seam-friendly conditions to keep the dynamic batting duo of Rohit and Yashasvi Jaiswal quiet.

The Bangladesh pacers' disciplined bowling effort finally paid off, with Hasan Mahmud getting Rohit's prized scalp in the third over of his first spell. From over the wicket, the right-arm speedster bowled a good length delivery that straightened a bit after pitching around the fourth stump line.

As Rohit went for a defensive shot, the ball took the outside edge off his bat, travelling straight to the slips. Najmul Shanto, stationed at the second slip, showcased his fielding attributes to claim a magnificent catch and send Rohit packing.

India Lose Two Early Wickets In 1st Test Vs Bangladesh

After being put into bat first, India had a disastrous start to their first innings in the series opener against Bangladesh. After Rohit departed for six runs, India's number three batter Shubman Gill perished for a shambolic seven-ball duck. After Gill's departure, legendary batter and former skipper Virat Kohli joined Yashasvi Jaiswal in the middle. As of writing, the hosts were reeling at 34 for two in 8.3 overs, with Jaiswal and Kohli batting on 17* and 6*, respectively.
