Durham fast bowling all-rounder Paul Coughlin snared a sensational caught-and-bowled against Lancashire in their North Group game of the 2024 T20 Blast season.

Bowling at Lancashire’s number four Matthew Hurst in the seventh over of the innings, an off-balanced Coughlin safely pouched a smashing straight hit from the wicketkeeper-batter to bag his first wicket of the high-scoring evening at Chester-le-Street.

Turning up for Durham at Chester-le-Street in their North Group T20 Blast 2024 game against Lancashire, Paul Coughlin was tasked to bowl right after the opening powerplay to a raging Matthew Hurst.

After getting smacked for successive boundaries by Hurst, Coughlin held on to a smashing straight hit from the Lancashire wicketkeeper, despite finding himself off-balanced in his follow through.

Paul Coughlin’s exceptional fielding brilliance reduced Lancashire to 74-3 in the run-chase of 219. The speedster also cleaned up number nine batter Jack Blatherwick in the final over of the match as Durham escaped with a two-run win in a high-scoring thriller.

Earlier in the match, Durham pounded 218 runs from their 20 overs, largely owing to dazzling half-centuries from opener Graham Clark and number three David Bedingham. While Clark smacked 87 runs from just 57 balls, South African based Bedingham tonked 78 from 42 balls with seven boundaries and four sixes.

The outcome helped Durham elevate themselves to number five position on the North Group points table, having secured three wins and three defeats from six completed fixtures.

Paul Coughlin and the rest of his Durham teammates will now go up against Yorkshire on June 21 at the same Chester-le-Street base venue.
