Legendary Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal has expressed his grief over Pakistan’s first-round exit from the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup. The ‘Men in Green’ crashed out of the tournament after USA’s planned fixture against Ireland on June 14 at Lauderhill was washed out due to rains.

Iqbal wished the Pakistan team to come up with better results next time and advised former captain and all-time great Shahid Afridi to guide the current team in their struggles.

On June 16, i.e., a couple of days after Pakistan’s confirmed exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup, former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal took to X (formerly Twitter) and consoled the ‘Men in Green’ team.

The out-of-favor Bangladeshi cricketer also advised former skipper and legendary all-rounder Shahid Afridi to guide the struggling Pakistan team going ahead.

“Feel sad to see Pakistan get eliminated from T20 WC. Hope they come well next time and have seniors like @SAfridiOfficial to show the way.”

The Pakistan cricket team, under Babar Azam, lost to USA in a thrilling Super Over in their opening match of the 2024 T20 World Cup. A few days later, the ‘Men in Green’ bottled an easy run-chase against India. While they bounced back with a seven-wicket routing of Canada, USA’s washout against Ireland on June 14 confirmed Pakistan’s early exit from the tournament.

Apart from Pakistan’s recent on-field struggles, the team is also reportedly embroiled in a controversial captaincy rift between active skipper Babar Azam and fast bowler Shaheen Afridi.

Babar was re-appointed as Pakistan captain a couple of months prior to the launch of the 2024 T20 World Cup over Shaheen Afridi, after the fast bowler was stripped off his leadership role after a single tour of New Zealand.
