Kusal Mendis played a solid inning but fell short of a half-century in Match No.38 of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 against the Netherlands. After scoring 46 runs off 29 balls, Mendis lost his wicket to Aryan Dutt. 

The dismissal occurred in the 11th over of the Sri Lankan innings, when Aryan Dutt bowled a short delivery on the stumps. Kusal Mendis attempted a pull shot but only managed to get a top edge. 

The ball went high up in the air towards the leg side, where Engelbrecht, positioned at deep mid-wicket, moved to his right and secured the catch with a reverse cup technique. This marked the end of Mendis' promising inning.

Earlier in the match, the Netherlands won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Saint Lucia.

Sri Lanka lost the early wicket of their opener Pathum Nissanka. However, experienced batters Kusal Mendis and Dhananjaya de Silva tried to build the Sri Lankan innings at the top along with the significant contribution from Charith Asalanka to rebuild the innings at the lower-middle order. As a result, they were powered to a mammoth 201-run total in 20 overs.
