Cameron Green made up for his shortcomings with the bat by picking up the key CSK wicket of Ajinkya Rahane. Moreover, the burly Australian all-rounder also packed Daryl Mitchell with a short delivery during the tense stages of the CSK run-chase at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.

Turning up for the RCB in the opening match of the IPL 2024 season, franchise debutant Green had earlier scored only 18 runs from 22 balls before Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik lifted the team to a competitive total.

Batting at number four and arriving to the crease after the opening powerplay at 71-2, Daryl Mitchell joined number three Ajinkya Rahane at a time when CSK required another 103 runs from the remaining 12 overs of the innings.

After guiding CSK past the 100-run mark alongside Shivam Dube, Mitchell was done-in by a short delivery from Cameron Green during his attempted pull-shot.

Daryl Mitchell, playing his first game for CSK, eventually made his way back to the pavilion with 22 runs to his name. His dismissal helped RCB reduce the hosts to 110-4 by 12.3 overs.

Earlier in the match, the RCB scored a competitive 173-6 from their 20 overs off the back of Anuj Rawat’s sparkling 25-ball 48 and Dinesh Karthik’s unbeaten 38. 

Cameron Green himself managed to pound 18 runs, albeit off 22 deliveries as he failed to lift RCB’s run-scoring charge in the middle order.
