The IPL 2024 itself commenced with a match between the RCB and defending champions CSK a while later at the same venue. RCB skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and opted to bat first on a spin-friendly Chepauk surface.
As it turned out, the match also marks the first for the CSK franchise ever since longtime skipper MS Dhoni handed over the leadership reigns to rising star Ruturaj Gaikwad.
