On Friday, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) legendary batter Virat Kohli ticked another box in his illustrious career. In Indian Premier League (IPL 2024)'s opening clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kohli marched past the 12,000-run mark in T20 cricket, becoming the first Indian and sixth overall to do so.
Amidst tumbling wickets at the other end, the right-handed opening batter achieved the landmark figure during the seventh over of the RCB innings when he clipped CSK spinner Ravindra Jadeja for a single.

Batting legend Virat Kohli scored the 12,000th run of his T20 profile when he reached 6* against CSK in the opening match of the IPL 2024 season at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium on March 22. The cricketer, who made his T20 debut with an inter-state match against Himachal back in April 2007, has so far featured in 377 matches, including 117 international appearances for the Indian team.
Remarkably, Virat Kohli’s average of 41.20 stands the highest among all T20 batters with more than 12,000 runs to their name.
Moreover, Kohli has minted 4,037 of those runs in T20I cricket for Team India. As of now, he is the leading run-getter in both, T20Is as well as in IPL matches.
Virat Kohli was eventually dismissed by CSK’s debutant Mustafizur Rahman for a near run-a-ball 21. He struck one six in his brief innings, and guided the RCB past the 50-run mark following their top-order jitters in the opening powerplay overs.
