Firebrand Pakistan middle-order batter Fakhar Zaman scored just five runs before losing his plot against Ireland’s speedster Curtis Campher around the halfway stage of the innings. Chasing 107 runs to win in match number 36 of the 2024 T20 World Cup, Fakhar’s dismissal reduced the ‘Men in Green’ to 52-3 in 8.1 overs.

Campher strikes on first ball, gets Fakhar Zaman

In a bid to get some runs under his belt, out-of-form Pakistani batter Fakhar Zaman attempted to launch Irish speedster Curtis Campher over the mid-off region, only to end up slicing the ball towards substitute fielder Ross Adair.

Batting at number four, Fakhar had arrived to the crease following the dismissal of both openers, Saim Ayub and Mohammad Rizwan, at 39-2 in the sixth over of the innings. Chasing 107 runs to win, the dashing left-hander managed to make just five runs from eight deliveries before crumbling in front of Campher.

As it turned out, Fakhar Zaman’s untimely dismissal led to a slew of wickets for Pakistan, considering the ‘Men in Green’ slipped from 52-2 to 62-6 in the space of just three overs.

Earlier in the match, Ireland tallied 106 runs from 20 overs, with middle-order batter Gareth Delany top-scoring in the innings through his valiant 19-ball 31. Among the Pakistan bowlers, new-ball operator Shaheen Afridi picked up figures of 3-22 from four overs while comeback man Mohammad Amir struck twice in his economical spell.

At the time of publishing, captain and senior batter Babar Azam had restored stability to Pakistan’s faltering innings by getting near their 107-run target.
