Australia leads 2-0 in the five-match series against England after winning the second ODI by 68 runs on Saturday, September 21 at Headingley in Leeds. Talking about the match, England captain Harry Brook won the toss and opted to bowl first. Australia scored a decent total of 270 before getting bowled out in the 45th over.

Marsh's Significant Knock Helps Australia To Reach A Positive Total

The openers, Matthew Short and Travis Head gave Australia a decent start, but the duo failed to continue with their innings and departed after scoring 29 runs each. Batting at No.3, Mitchell Marsh put his hands up and made 60 off 59, laced with six fours and three sixes.

At 221 for nine, Australia found themselves in a spot of bother. But Alex Carey put on a handy partnership of 49 runs with Josh Hazlewood and helped them post a competitive total on the board. Carey scored the most and made 74 off 67 with eight fours and three sixes.

Mitchell Starc Strikes With A Brilliant Yorker

Chasing the target, openers Phil Salt and Ben Duckett gave England a steady start. But once Josh Hazlewood dismissed Salt, the hosts lost their way. Will Jacks and Liam Livingstone had an outing equivalent to a nightmare after they bagged golden ducks.

England Captain Harry Brook failed to make a valuable contribution and was trapped by Mitchell Starc's brilliant Yorker and dismissed LBW. In the 7th over of the second innings, Starc delivered an outstanding delivery.

The ball was pitched on the middle and leg stump line, and Brook found himself cramped for room as he failed to move his front foot. Despite his effort to get his bat on the ball at the last moment, the incoming delivery swung in and struck him on the pad. Upon review, it indicated that the delivery would have gone on to hit the stumps, and three reds were shown on the ball tracking system.

The Three Lions found themselves tottering at 65 for five in 9.3 overs. Jamie Smith and Jacob Bethell provided some relief with a 55-run stand for the sixth wicket. But a brilliant effort from the Australian bowling unit turned things around.

The third ODI of the series will be played on September 24 at Seat Unique Riverside.
