Pant And Gill Forge A Well Constructed Partnership

On Day 2, India lost openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma early. There was pressure on Virat Kohli to perform, but he departed without making a significant contribution. Then Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill took the field and played with calmness and composure to stabilise the innings.

Rishabh Pant demonstrated uncharacteristic restraint in the early stages and constructed his knock with patience and his usual flamboyant style.

He pounced on loose deliveries for boundaries but refrained from his typical aggressive stroke play, putting a price on his wicket. Pant’s half-century came off 88 balls, a knock slower than usual for the attacking batter, but reflective of the maturity he brought to his comeback.

Rishabh Pant Perishes To Mehidy Hasan Miraz

After completing his century, Pant lost momentum and gave his wicket to Mehidy Hasan Miraz. He moved down the ground and tried to play the stroke but failed to elevate it despite getting the required power.

Hitting it flat towards the bowler, Miraz showcased good reflexes and grabbed the sharp catch without any mistake. As Pant walked off the field, he received a standing ovation from the team and the fans on the ground. He was also seen thanking the heavens as he returned to the pavilion.

Soon after Pant completed his century, Shubman Gill also completed his ton with his unique style. Ultimately, India declared the innings at 287 with 515 lead. At the time of writing, Bangladesh needs 500 runs to win the match with Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam on the crease.
