In an encouraging and positive sign, Indian fast bowling maestro Mohammed Shami confirmed he had his surgery stitches removed in a massive health update on his Achilles tendon heel surgery.

Mohammad Shami, who last donned the Indian jersey in the ICC ODI World Cup held in India in 2023, was battling a heel injury throughout the tournament. Unsurprisingly, it worsened over time, and Shami was accordingly sent to the United Kingdom for surgery.

Last month, the fast bowler had a successful Achilles tendon surgery, and days later, Jay Shah, BCCI secretary, confirmed that the bowler has returned to India.

Meanwhile, in the latest update, Mohammed Shami confirmed that he had his stitches removed earlier today after 15 days of surgery. He expressed gratitude for having achieved some significant progress in his rehabilitation. However, the journey to attain full fitness is still long and tedious, and Shami is looking forward to the next stage of his healing journey.

Shami's rehabilitation is expected to last for nearly six months. Heel injuries are always very tricky for nurses, and as the pacer is a key part of India's future scheme of things, the apex body would adopt a cautious approach and not rush him through anything whatsoever.

Notably, Jay Shah earlier confirmed Mohammed Shami's absence from the upcoming IPL edition and also the pivotal ICC T20 World Cup.

The BCCI secretary announced that he expects the fast bowler to return during India's home series against Bangladesh, which is scheduled for September. But again, the timeline does not guarantee anything. It all depends on how Shami's body responds and heals through the surgery.

Needless to say, Mohammed Shami's absence will be deeply felt by not only the Gujarat Titans but also the Indian senior cricket team. While GT are yet to announce his replacement, the Indian selection committee has enough reinforcements at their helm.
