Bangladesh's ace all-rounder Mehidy Hasan showcased his bowling prowess on Wednesday afternoon, as he cleaned up Sri Lanka's renowned batter Charith Asalanka in the first ODI. Sri Lanka, who had lost three crucial wickets, were thus rocked by another dismissal.

The incident occurred in the 26th over when Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto turned up to Mehidy Hasan in pursuit of a breakthrough. The move instantly paid off, as the off-spinner got rid of Asalanka, who looked set in the middle.

It was a good length delivery around the middle stump, which turned away sharply, beating the southpaw on his defence. The ball went on to hit the off stump, dismissing Asalanka for 18.

While Mehidy celebrated the dismissal jubilantly along with his teammates, Asalanka made his way back to the hut with disappointment written all over his face.

Earlier, batting first, Sri Lanka had a brisk start to their innings, with Avishka Fernando and Pathum Nissanka scoring scintillating cameos. However, Tanzim Hasan Sakib emerged as the saviour for Bangladesh, dismantling the Lankans with a clinical three-fer.

Although Kusal Mendis and Janith Liyanage struck fighting fifties, the visitors find themselves in troubled waters, placed at 244 for seven in 46 overs as of writing.
