In a significant setback for Delhi Capitals, English batter Harry Brook has withdrawn from the IPL 2024, citing personal reasons. Brook, purchased by the Capitals for INR 4 Crores, won't be a part of the lucrative tournament, starting on March 22.

To those unversed, Brook opted out of England's recent Test assignment on Indian soil against the hosts due to personal reasons. In its official statement, the England Cricket Board had requested the fans to respect his family's wish for privacy.

"The Brook family respectfully requests privacy during this time. In light of this, the ECB and the family kindly request the media and the public to respect their wish for privacy and refrain from intruding on their private space," the official release read.

Before joining the Capitals, Brook had an unsuccessful one-year stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad, scoring only 190 runs at an average of 21.11 and a strike rate of 123.38.

However, despite his unimpressive outing in the IPL 2023, Brook was snapped by the Capitals in the mini-auction.

Now, as he has withdrawn from the tournament, the Capitals must be looking for an able replacement. If reports are to be believed, Australia’s dynamic batter Jake Fraser-McGurk is the frontrunner to replace him in the DC setup.
