'Can't Pick Him On Sentiment Forever' - Boycott Asks England To Move On From Anderson

Veteran English speedster James Anderson recently grabbed the limelight, becoming the first-ever pacer to scalp 700 Test wickets. However, despite achieving the landmark, Anderson received a lot of flak for his modest returns in the India series, where he managed ten wickets across four matches at an ordinary average of 33.50.

Meanwhile, legendary English cricketer Geoffrey Boycott has urged the national selection committee to move on from the 41-year-old veteran, considering his recent outings.

In his column for the Telegraph, Boycott has slammed England, urging them to search for Anderson's alternative rather than keeping him in the playing XI on emotional grounds.

"England can't keep James Anderson wrapping in cotton wool and picking him on sentiment forever. England have to find some young seamers who can bowl 20 overs and come back the next day ready for more," Boycott wrote.

Since 2023, Anderson hasn't been at his best in whites, scalping only 25 wickets in ten Tests at an average of 37.2. Given the dip in his bowling form, England might consider moving on from the veteran and replacing him with a fresh face in their squad.

Regarding England, the Ben Stokes-led side has had a horrendous WTC cycle, occupying the tenth place in the standings. Up next, they will face West Indies in a three-match series at home.
