Pakistan's ace batter Saud Shakeel got lucky, as he survived a caught behind dismissal, thanks to a fielding blunder from Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

The middle-order batter, who was recently appointed as Pakistan's vice-captain in Tests, joined former captain Babar Azam in the middle following the dismissal of opener Saim Ayub

However, Shakeel had a shaky start to his innings, edging a delivery from Nahid Rana, with the ball going straight to Mehidy Hasan Miraz, stationed in the slip cordon.

Unfortunately for Bangladesh, however, the experienced bowling all-rounder dropped a simple catch, giving the batter a lifeline.

The incident occurred during the 35th over of Pakistan's first innings, after they had just lost Ayub's prized wicket.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto's decision to bring young pacer Nahid Rana from the other end worked wonders, as the right-arm speedster induced an edge off Shakeel's bat.

From over the wicket, Nahid bowled a back-of-the-length delivery, which moved slightly away from Shakeel, drawing him onto a false shot.

However, as the ball flew towards the second slip, Mehidy Hasan dropped a sitter, letting down the visiting team.

His comical fielding could prove costly for Bangladesh, as Shakeel is in sublime form. The stylish southpaw even slammed a flamboyant century in the first Test.

Babar and Shakeel join hands to steady the ship for Pakistan

After being put into bat, Pakistan had a disastrous start to their innings, losing Abdullah Shafique's valuable wicket off Taskin Ahmed's bowling.

Saim and Shan formed a magnificent partnership, but their dismissals brought Bangladesh right back into the contest.

As of writing, Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel were trying to rebuild the innings, with Pakistan placed at 139 for three in 40 overs.
