England's premier middle-order batter Harry Brook failed to convert his start into a big score in the first innings of the ongoing second Test against Sri Lanka. The stylish right-handed batter was in sublime rhythm; however, Asitha Fernando emerged as his nemesis, dismissing him for 33 runs.

The incident occurred during the 31st over of England's innings when Brook was steadily moving the scoreboard alongside former captain, Joe Root, after the dismissal of Ben Duckett

As a partnership was building, Sri Lankan skipper Dhananjaya de Silva brought his trump card, Asitha Fernando, into the attack.

His tactical move proved to be a masterstroke, with the right-arm pacer getting rid of Brook, who seemed all set for a significant knock.

After conceding two runs off his first four deliveries, Fernando bowled a full-length delivery on the stumps. The ball stayed a bit low, hitting Brook on his front pad as he missed a flick shot.

As soon as the batter was undone by the low bounce, the Lankan players appealed for an LBW, with on-field umpire Paul Reiffel raising his finger.

However, Brook went upstairs to challenge his decision, as he was unsatisfied with it. It was umpire's call on hitting, with the TV umpire asking Reiffel to uphold his decision.

Joe Root holds the fort for England in 2nd Test vs SL

Despite not getting enough support at the other end, legendary batter Joe Root has held the fort for England. As of writing, the hosts were 193 for five, with Root and Chris Woakes batting on 80* and 0*, respectively.
