Mohammad Rizwan was at his imperial best against Bangladesh on Day 2 of the first Test in Rawalpindi. He slammed his highest-ever Test score, but while batting at 171, Pakistan skipper, Shan Masood declared the innings, denying a famous double ton to his teammate.

The Pakistan team has received a lot of flak for this, but vice-captain, Saud Shakeel has justified the decision of the team. In the press conference, he stated that Rizwan was already told an hour ago, the time when Pakistan will declare the innings, so he already knew it before.

“See, as far as Rizwan bhai’s double century is concerned, I don’t think there was a haste in taking the decision (to declare the innings). Because Rizwan bhai was clearly told an hour before that we would be declaring at this point of time. So he had an idea when we will declare,” Shakeel said.

After an early collapse on Day 1, where Pakistan had lost 3 quick wickets, it was the pair of Rizwan and Saud Shakeel, who resurrected the innings. The duo added 240 runs together, and made sure that the hosts were already ahead of the visitors at the end of Day 2.

Rizwan's heroic knock of 171, included 11 fours and 3 sixes as Pakistan ended with a score of 448/6 before the declaration was made.
