RCB spinners Asha Sobhana and Shreyanka Patil punched back at Delhi Capitals by getting rid of raging opening batters Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning in quick succession.

Sobhana and Patil's timely breakthroughs ensured that the Capitals slipped from 54-0 to 60-2 in the space of an over in match number 17 of the ongoing WPL 2024 season.

Delhi Capitals captain Meg Lanning and her opening partner Shafali Verma took apart RCB's new-ball attack in the opening powerplay with a barrage of blistering boundaries all across the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Racing to 53-0 by the end of the first six overs of the innings, skipper Lanning formed a rapid 29 while young Verma listed 23 scintillating runs from just 18 deliveries.

However, Delhi Capitals' blazing powerplay start was soon extinguished by RCB spinner Asha Sobhana in the opening over of her spell and the seventh over of the innings, where she deceived Shafali Verma through her crafty leg-break.

Moreover, Shreyanka Patil got rid of Meg Lanning the following over with a straight delivery, trapping the Australian legend plumb in front of the stumps.

Fortunately for the Delhi Capitals, the sudden dismissals of their well-set openers were followed by an all-out assault from number three batter Jemimah Rodrigues.

The 23-year-old middle-order star raced to her half-century from just 26 balls and brought up team 100 in the 13th over of the innings alongside England-based batting all-rounder Alice Capsey.

Currently placed at number two on the WPL 2024 points table, a win over RCB at this stage of the tournament will pretty much confirm a place in the playoffs for the Delhi Capitals.
