In an outstanding display of superlative fielding efforts, Jason Roy of Quetta Gladiators timed his jump to pluck an overhead catch, which led to a much-needed dismissal of in-form Sahibzada Farhan in a high-octane PSL clash.

Lahore Qalandars were up against Quetta Gladiators for their final fixture of the PSL 2024 season. In a tournament to forget, the defending champions, Lahore, will finish at the bottom of the points table.

Regardless, for one last time, for the sake of pride, the Qalandars stepped out with positive intent. After opting to bat first, Lahore openers Sahibzada Farhan and Mirza Tahir Baig stitched a 38-run partnership inside five overs before Abrar Ahmed struck with his mystery spin.

For the final over of the mandatory powerplay, Abrar put pressure on Farhan with two consecutive dot deliveries. To exploit the batter's pressure to score, the spinner set a trap and lured him into playing a big shot.

Farhan walked into the trap by dancing down the track to hammer a lofted shot over mid-off. While the batter mistimed, he nearly managed to clear the infield before Jason Roy showcased his brilliance.

Standing at short extra cover, Roy timed his jump to perfection to grab a superb overhead catch. He made sure to latch the ball with both hands, which averted a fumble. That marked the end of Farhan's sturdy at the crease, and Quetta Gladiators drew first blood in the crucial fixture.

Notably, Quetta Gladiators are fighting for the lone available playoff spot. With Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi, and Islamabad United advancing to the next stage, only one team can qualify for the knockouts.

And interestingly, the Gladiators stand a better chance over the Karachi Kings with an added point advantage.
