Belligerent Delhi Capitals opener Shafali Verma was knocked over by UP Warriorz fast bowler Saima Thakor, just moments after their intense stare-down in match number 15 of the WPL 2024 season.

Chasing 139 to win, Verma and her captain Meg Lanning provided their side a brisk start in the powerplay overs until the former found her off-stump rattled by Thakor in the fourth over of the innings.

Shafali Verma goes down attacking against UPW

Shafali Verma listed a couple of confident boundaries to signal her early run-chase intent against UP Warriorz. Taking Delhi Capitals Women to 20-0 alongside captain Meg Lanning by the completion of their first three overs, Verma’s ceaseless quest for quick powerplay runs triggered her own downfall as she was bested by a hard-length delivery from Saima Thakor.

As it turned out, both Verma and Thakor had also exchanged an intense stare-down a couple of times earlier in the same over, before the latter seized the last laugh in their duel.

The dismissal gave UP Warriorz their first breakthrough of the innings as they aim to overcome the table-toppers of the WPL 2024 points ladder.

Fortunately for Delhi Capitals, skipper Meg Lanning took up the run-scoring charge following Shafali Verma’s untimely dismissal.

The legendary Australian batter raced to her half-century from just 37 balls during the 13th over of the innings. The innings marked Lanning’s fourth fifty-plus score of the WPL 2024 season, and her third in succession, as she steered Delhi Capitals towards a commanding territory against UP Warriorz. However, UP Warriorz made a superb comeback and managed to win the game by 1 run in a final-over thriller.

The Delhi Capitals franchise entered the contest off the back of four successive wins to lead the WPL 2024 points table
