Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu, the ICC Player of the Month for July, made a golden duck on Friday (August 16) while facing Ireland in the first ODI of the three-match series at Civil Service Cricket Club, Belfast.

Orla Prendergast got the big wicket, and the Sri Lanka captain could only get a thin edge before it got behind Amy Hunter’s safe pair of hands behind the stumps.


Athapaththu Returned After The Hundred 2024

Athapaththu played for Oval Invincibles in The Hundred Women 2024, and her last match in the competition was against on August 14, against Trent Rockets. There, she was not in a great touch either, making 20+ scores only once on her last five occasions.

Notably, Athapaththu won the Player of the Month award in July after a successful campaign with Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2024. There, they defeated Smriti Mandhana-starred India in the final to win an elusive title. However, since then, she has not been living up to the lofty expectations, and the recent failure against Ireland women made the matters even worse.
