As Pakistan were chasing 184 runs total against England at Edgbaston ground in Birmingham, the chase was briefly interrupted by a pitch invader who stormed into the field with a Palestine flag before the security took him out.

After the series opener at the Oval got washed out due to rain, England hosted Pakistan at Edgbaston for the second T20I of the four-game series.

England batted first, and Jos Butler rammed over the visitors’ power-packed bowling unit with an impressive 51 balls 84 runs knock to anchor England to 184 runs in the first innings total.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s opening pair, Saim Ayub and Mohammad Rizwan failed to deliver before Fakhar Azam and Babar Azam tried to salvage things through a 40-run partnership.

However, as wickets kept falling at regular intervals, Pakistan kept on crumbling under pressure. That being said, the match was halted for a brief period when Imad Wasim and Iftikhar Ahmed were at the crease.

A spectator from the crowd invaded the field with a Palestine flag before securities chased him down. As the invader was being taken out of the field, the crowd present at Edgbaston erupted into ‘Free Palestine’ chants.

Notably, the pitch invader showcased his solidarity with Palestinians in the ongoing war with Israel in Gaza.

After the pitch invader was taken out, play resumed with Imad Wasim and Iftikhar Ahmed struggling to take a knockout punch.

Towards the end, Pakistan were bowled out for 160 runs as England went home with 1-0 lead in the four game series.

The third T20I will now take place on Tuesday, May 28, at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.
