Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) continued their dominating performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai to lift the trophy on Sunday.

KKR's bowlers delivered a clinical performance, restricting SRH to a meagre 113, the lowest-ever score in any IPL final. Mitchell Starc and Andre Russell took the charge with the ball, before Venkatesh Iyer led KKR in the chase with an aggressive unbeaten half-century, finishing the match in just 10.3 overs for KKR.

Followed by Kolkata's victory, former India batter Ambati Rayudu, in his congratulatory message to the Shreyas Iyer-led side, took a fresh jibe at Virat Kohli and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Ambati Rayudu Takes A Brutal Dig At Virat Kohli & RCB

Speaking to Star Sports after the match at the Chepauk Stadium, the former CSK player emphasised the importance of collective team contributions.

He remarked that individual milestones, such as winning the Orange Cap for the most runs in the tournament, did not necessarily guarantee an IPL title, indirectly referred To Virat Kohli and RCB's struggles to secure an IPL championship despite individual accolades.

“Congratulations to the KKR team for really standing up for stalwarts like (Sunil) Narine, (Andre) Russell and (Mitchell) Starc and also contribute their share in the team's win. That’s how a team wins the IPL. We have seen this over the years. It’s not the Orange Cap that wins you the IPL but it is the contributions like 300 runs each (of many players),” Rayudu said while talking to Star Sports.

Virat Kohli was in incredible form this season and won the Orange cap after scoring 741 runs in 15 innings at an average of 61.75. He smashed one hundred and five fifties in the tournament at a strike rate of over 154.

This was the second time he won the award for becoming the leading run-getter in an IPL season. In 2016, he had scored a record 973 runs to claim the award for the first time.

This is not the first that the former CSK player took a sly dig at Virat Kohli and RCB. After the CSK's heartbreaking exit from IPL 2024 following a loss against Rajasthan Royals in Eliminator earlier last week in Ahmedabad, Rayudu commented on the RCB and the dynamic batter.
