'We Were Invincible..,' Shreyas Iyer Credits Team Effort As KKR Lift IPL 2024 Trophy

After two months of grind, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are the new champions of IPL as they trashed SRH in the finals. Winning captain Shreyas Iyer, meanwhile, credited team effort for an invincible season.

IPL 2024 season final turned into a one-sided contest after KKR bowlers brutally thrashed SRH to win the game by eight wickets and lift the valuable trophy for the third time.

SRH were bowled out for 113 runs before KKR completed the chase in 10.3 overs. Needless to say, it was a fantastic effort from the bowlers, especially Mitchell Starc, who bagged the player of the match.

That being said, winning captain Shreyas Iyer was at an absolute loss for words. He stated that the team played like an invincible unit and there is nothing he could have asked for more.

"Absolutely comprehensive to be honest. This is what we demanded from the team and every individual. They stood out to the occasion. It is hard to express. The wait was longer than the match. We played like Invincibles throughout the season," Iyer said.

Iyer added that KKR has been tremendous since game 1, and an absolute team effort was needed to topple a dangerous side like SRH. The skipper also acknowledged that he was lucky to bowl first, as things could have gone either way on the eve of the finals.

"The performance has been flawless throughout. I am running out of words. We've been tremendous from game 1, stepped up today. All we demanded to back each other. This could have gone either way. We were lucky enough to bowl first. Every situation went in our favor. Thanks to SRH, they were phenomenal," he added.

Shreyas Iyer further credited Andre Russell and Mitchell Starc for stepping up in big games.

"That's how big players stand up [on Starc]. He stepped up to the right occasion. Something to learn from his work ethics for the youngsters. Russell is a magic wand. He is waiting for me to call him to bowl. I just pass on the bowl to him. Whenever he has bowled he has got us the breakthrough," KKR captain said.

He lastly added that KKR’s successful campaign was a result of complete team effort and no individual performance, which brought them to the winning podium. 

"All the pacers made it easy for us to go out and finish the game. Everyone is stepping up at the right time. There is no individual performance which has brought us here. It has been a flawless season and hopefully we continue the same next year," Iyer concluded.

He deemed the IPL 2024 season flawless from KKR’s point of view and vowed to come back stronger next year.
