In a grand gesture that highlights the critical role of ground staff in cricket, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced significant monetary rewards for the groundsmen and curators of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Following a thrilling season that concluded with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) clinching the title by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) with an 8-wicket victory at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Shah revealed the rewards in recognition of the staff's tireless efforts.

IPL groundsmen receive lucrative rewards for hard work in 2024 Season

As the curtain fell on another electrifying season of the IPL, Jay Shah was keen to reward the unsung heroes of the cricketing spectacle.

In a heartfelt acknowledgment of their hard work, the groundsmen at the 10 regular IPL venues have been awarded a "token of appreciation" of Rs 25 lakhs each. Additionally, the ground staff at the three auxiliary venues in Guwahati, Dharamsala, and Visakhapatnam will each receive Rs 10 lakhs.

"The unsung heroes of our successful T20 season are the incredible ground staff who worked tirelessly to provide brilliant pitches, even in difficult weather conditions. As a token of our appreciation, the groundsmen and curators at the 10 regular IPL venues will receive INR 25 lakhs each, and the same at the 3 additional venues will get INR 10 lakhs each. Thank you for your dedication and hard work!" Jay Shah said while praising the groundsmen.

The regular venues for this IPL season included cricketing hubs like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, and Jaipur. Meanwhile, the additional venues—Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, and Dharamsala—played massive roles in accommodating teams like the Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Punjab Kings, respectively.

This year's IPL was marked by high-octane matches and record-breaking team totals, demonstrating the impeccable quality of pitches prepared by the ground staff.

Notably, Sunrisers Hyderabad set new team total records twice this season, which is proof of the excellent playing conditions facilitated by the groundsmen.

It is worth mentioning that Jay Shah has a history of recognizing and rewarding the behind-the-scenes champions of cricket. His continued commitment was evident last year when, as president of the Asian Cricket Council, he awarded $50,000 to Sri Lanka's pitch curators for maintaining excellent playing surfaces during the Asia Cup.

Moreover, after IPL-2022, Shah had previously announced a whopping Rs 1.25 crore in total as prize money for the curators and groundsmen across all IPL venues.
