The St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots locked horns against the St. Lucia Kings in the fifth match of the CPL 2024 at Warner Park in St. Kitts.

St. Lucia Kings' skipper Faf du Plessis, won the toss and invited Patriots to bat first. However the Patriots faced an early setback with the dismissal of their captain, Andre Fletcher. But the duo of Kyle Mayers and Evin Lewis took charge and completely turned the game around.

Evin Lewis And Kyle Mayers Show

Evin Lewis launched an all-out assault on the opposition bowlers, while Kyle Mayers, after a cautious start, soon joined the fireworks. Both batters reached their half-centuries with powerful sixes, and they continued to dominate the Kings' bowling attack.

The duo-went on to break the record for the highest partnership in CPL history, and surpassed the previous record of 162 runs held by Walton and Chris Gayle.

Their partnership set a new benchmark in the tournament and their exceptional batting prowess put the Patriots in a commanding position in the match.

Evin Lewis looked in some different form he smashed a century in just 54 balls with seven fours and nine sixes. However, his partner Lewis was not able to complete his century and just fell short of 8 runs and missed a well-deserved century.

Anrich Nortje Provides Crucial Breakthrough Of Roston Chase

Chasing the target of a massive 201/3, St Lucia and Kings lost early wickets with a significant new ball spell from Kyle Mayers, who scalped two crucial wickets of Johnson Charles and then removed Faf du Plessis in the same over.

The South African ace pacer, Anrich Nortje very soon joined the party and took two important wickets of Ackeem Auguste and Roston Chase.

This spell of Nortje turned out to be vital as he dismissed the dangerous Roston Chase with a perfect in-dipping delivery in the 4th over of the second innings. It was a good-length ball with a hint of inward movement that attacked the off stump.

As there was no space left for Chase to move his feet he brought his bat outside the line for a defensive stroke and was beaten on the inside edge. Then the ball sneaked through the gap between the bat and pad and smashed the off stump.

However, Tim Seifert made 64 runs off 27 balls and Bhanuka Rajapaksa also contributed and made an unbeaten 68* off 35 to rebuild the innings.

The duo smashed a quick fire 103-run partnership for the 5th wicket and with their significant contributions St Lucia chased down the score inside 18 overs to get off the mark in the very first match of the season.
