Cape Town require more from their skipper Pollard [X.com]
Sunrisers Eastern Cape and MI Cape Town strive to overcome defeats in their previous match with a promising clash in store between the two teams in the SA20 League 2024 on Saturday (January 27) afternoon in Gqeberha.
While the team Eastern Cape lost to Pretoria Capitals, the popular Cape Town franchise suffered an even more one-sided defeat at the hands of Durban Super Giants earlier in the week. Stranded mid-table, both the teams are desperately for two points to try and avoid a slip down the ranks.
SEC vs MICT: Team Previews
Sunrisers Eastern Cape
Placed third in the six-team standings with three wins in six matches, the Sunrisers missed a great opportunity to keep in touch with the table toppers with a fourth win, failing to overhaul Capitals' 125 all out in the second half.
Even as Daniel Worrall (2/29) and Marco Jansen (3/27) produced the goods with the ball in hand and triggered the opposition's downfall, the Eastern Cape batters allowed the Capitals to fight back with 35 from young Tristan Stubbs being the top score in a disappointing scorecard.
Liam Dawson's late blitz for 29* wasn't good enough to take his side home as Eastern Cape faced a three-run hammering when they should've easily surpassed Pretoria's score. Their batting will have to pack a strong punch if they are to get back to the winning ways.
MI Cape Town
The MI franchise continues to disappoint in SA20 League as Kieron Pollard's men suffered an even worse 36-run defeat against the Super Giants last game despite restricting them to 157/6 in the first 20 overs.
Even as the spin pairing of George Linde (2/15) and Thomas Kaber (2/20) worked its magic and ruffled the opposition, the MI pacers left much to be desired. The likes of Kagiso Rabada (0/33), Sam Curran (1/51) and Olly Stone (1/37) conceded way too many when they bowled, which allowed Super Giants to somehow reach close to 160.
On a dryish pitch, that proved to be a score too good for the Cape Town batting unit as Noor Ahmad ran riot in the second half and reduced Pollard's men to a sorry state, restricted to just 121/9 in the chase.

SEC vs MICT: Gqeberha Pitch Report
The pitches in the ongoing edition of the SA20 League have surprisingly played dry over the past few days and the St George's Park in Gqeberha is known for its dryish strips. Unless watered and rolled excessively, the pitch for the upcoming Sunrisers versus MI encounter could retain its natural characteristics and we therefore might be in for a riveting low-scoring clash.
