MS Dhoni's love for the Indian Army is renowned. The legendary former India skipper has held great admiration and respect for the soldiers who serve our great nation every day of their lives and put it at risk for the safety of the 1.4 billion.

The former India captain once even used the soldiers' reference during his toss duties at the international stage when he donned the special jersey carrying his mother Devaki's name at the back while playing a One-Day International in Visakhapatnam.

The incident goes back to October 2016 when India geared up for the series-deciding game of the five-match series against New Zealand on the occasion of Mother's Day. In a wonderful gesture, all the Indian players wore their mother's names on the back of their Indian team shirt.

When Dhoni Referred To Soldiers For Motherly Gratitude

As he spoke to veteran commentator and toss anchor Ravi Shastri after the flip of the coin, Dhoni compared the commitment and service of the Indian soldiers to the Indian mothers towards the welfare of their kids and the families and said the gratitude should be regular, not occasional.

"Often we talk about the soldiers and we get patriotic (only) before the 26th of January and the 15th of August. What is important is to get up every day and thank them for what they have been doing," Dhoni said.

"In the same way, the contribution of the mothers, we need to appreciate it every day," the former skipper added as the packed crowd in Vizag rose up in salute to the man's words and regard for the two solid pillars of the Indian society.

At the time, the Mother's Day salutation fixture was expected to become an annual affair in India's international itinerary. However, the match in Vizag remains the only time Indian players wore their mother's name on the back of the Indian team shirt.
