Shamar Joseph was left counting his misfortune as he was denied a certain breakthrough by the weight of the LED bails on Day 2 of the Gabba Test against Australia this Friday (January 27).

The West Indies pacer should've had the wicket of Aussie wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey when he skid one past the left-hander's defence from the good length region. The ball did brush the top of the off-stump but the bails refused to fall off.

In yet another instance of the LED bails not coming off, Joseph initially thought he just missed out on an LBW shout, only for the Fox Sports broadcasting team to reveal later that the ball brushed the top of the right bail.

The shocking incident in the 15th over in the Australian first-innings. Having reduced the hosts to a jaw-dropping 5 for 72 after posting a daunting 311 of their own in difficult conditions in Brisbane, West Indies nearly had their sixth scalp.

Joseph had Carey struggling to an incoming delivery from the good-length region and initially thought he missed out on an edge or an LBW shout as he gestured to wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva that there is no case to opt for DRS.

Only to learn later that he couldn't get what should've been a straightforward bowled instance as even at his speeds, the LED bail refused to fall off despite making a clear contact with the stumps.

There was a flicky sound as the ball went past the stumps. Those watching felt it could be off the outside edge or the thigh pad. However, we were all in for an absolute surprise when the slow-mo replay confirmed there was a definite deflection from the sticks.
