Ravindra Jadeja notched up his 20th half-century in Tests on Day 2 of India’s five-match series-opener against England at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium

The 35-year-old helped India overcome England’s 246-run first innings total by sharing identical 60-plus stands with fellow half-centurion KL Rahul and wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat.

Known for his sword-swinging celebration, Jadeja also entertained the Hyderabadi crowd by swinging his bat upon reaching the landmark run.

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja listed his 50th run from 84 balls in the final session of Day 2 against England at Hyderabad. The cricketer had made his way to the crease at 223-4 following the dismissal of a well-set Shreyas Iyer.

Thereafter, Jadeja shared 65 runs with KL Rahul and another 68 runs with KS Bharat to extend the Indian lead past the 100-run mark. Much to the delight of the Hyderabad crowd, the seasoned campaigner also pulled out his trademark sword-swinging celebration upon reaching his half-century.

Remarkably, Ravindra Jadeja also made his presence felt with the ball earlier in the game, as his demolishing act alongside Ravichandran Ashwin folded up the Englishmen for just 246 on Day 1. Both Ashwin and Jadeja claimed three wickets each in the innings, and the two received much assistance from fellow spin mate Axar Patel as well as from new-ball speedster Jasprit Bumrah.

The ongoing match at Hyderabad commenced India’s five-Test series against England, which also constitutes a part of the ongoing 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. Jadeja, who is currently sitting on a pile of 278 Test wickets, is expected to complete the 300-wicket landmark figure at some point during the series.
