On Wednesday, July 23, Tamil Nadu spinner R. Sai Kishore took his first wicket in the County Championship while playing for Surrey in a Division One match against Yorkshire. He dismissed Jonny Bairstow on a rain-curtailed day to mark a significant milestone.

The County Championship is becoming a desired destination for Indian cricketers to fuel their dream of playing Test cricket for India. Recently, Ishan Kishan, Yuzvendra Chahal, Sai Kishore, Tilak Varma, and Khaleel Ahmed also travelled to England to play County games.

Sai Kishore Picks His First County Wicket For Surrey

Promising spinner Sai Kishore, who joined Surrey for his maiden County stint, grabbed his first wicket in a Division One match against Yorkshire. He dismissed opposition skipper Jonny Bairstow, who was batting well and had already scored 72 runs.

Bairstow shared a strong fifth-wicket partnership of 88 runs with Revis. However, his aggressive approach led to his dismissal. In an attempt to loft Kishore over mid-on, Bairstow mistimed the shot and was caught by Will Jacks for a quick-fire 72 off 90 deliveries, including a six and 12 boundaries.

The left-arm spinner bowled a tight and disciplined spell, finishing the day with figures of 1/53 from 26 overs.

After Bairstow’s dismissal, Revis remained unbeaten on 34, while Will Sutherland was on 6 before rain returned. The weather worsened, and no more play was possible. The umpires officially called off the day’s play, and Yorkshire ended Day 2 on 376 for 5 in 110.1 overs.

Kishore To Play 2 County Games

In July 2025, Sai Kishore signed a short two-game County Championship deal with Surrey, marking his debut in English county cricket. With 192 first-class wickets and a standout red-ball record, Kishore’s stint in England is seen as a key opportunity to strengthen his case for national selection and prepare for the 2025-26 Indian season.

However, his stint is just 2 games long, as the Indian domestic season is likely to begin soon, for which pre-season camp will take place shortly.
