India’s celebrated wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant suffered a nasty blow on his right foot while batting on Day 1 of the 4th Test at Manchester. He had to be carried off the field on a cart, and suspense over his future participation in the game continues to linger.

The left-hander, who has been in great form throughout the series, was playing another aggressive innings when he was struck on the foot by a Chris Woakes delivery. The ball took an inside edge as Pant attempted a reverse sweep and hit his right metatarsal bone hard.

Pant tried to walk it off but was clearly in discomfort. He removed his gear slowly, limping in pain. The physio rushed in, and when Pant’s boot was removed, his foot was found to be swollen and bloodied.

He collapsed to the ground, unable to stand for long, and had to be taken off the field in an ambulance cart. Rishabh Pant was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for scans.

In an update shared by BCCI, the board confirmed that the wicket-keeper was in hospital under the supervision of BCCI’s medical team. However, a clarity of the severity of the injury is yet unknown.

It isn’t confirmed yet whether Pant is fit enough to take further part on Day 2 of the 4th Test. He is not only doubtful for the 4th Test but also for the remainder of the series since his injury looked serious at first glance.

Before the injury, Rishabh Pant was batting fearlessly, scoring 37 off 48 balls and keeping India’s hopes alive after the early wickets of Jaiswal, Rahul, and Gill. His strike rate of 77 and his attacking shots had put pressure on the English bowlers.

However, if he gets ruled out, Team India will be forced to play with 9 batters, a massive disadvantage in a must-win Test.
